Kinder - Level 1 (K1)

Athletes will enter into the ”Learn to Train – Learning the sport” phase as a  Kinder 1 (K1) (75 days on snow) for two years (ages eleven and twelve) where they will continue to focus on skill development and an overall goal of being technically correct by the age of twelve.

Program Cost: $3400

Additional Costs include: Alberta Alpine Athlete registration - $124, Family membership with the Banff Alpine Racers and Alberta Alpine Ski Association - $100, Alberta Alpine raffle tickets (one package per family - $200), Caribou Giftcard - $200, ski equipment/clothing, pass/tickets, race fees (where applicable).

Kinder - Level 2 (K2)

“Learn to Race – Building the racer” follows next for those who are thirteen and fourteen years and will race in a category known as Kinder 2 (K2) (100 days on snow). The focus is learning to train from start to finish, as fast as possible while demonstrating excellent technical skills.

Program Cost: $4800

Additional Costs include: Alberta Alpine Athlete registration - $124, Family membership with the Banff Alpine Racers and Alberta Alpine Ski Association - $100, Alberta Alpine raffle tickets (one package per family - $200), Caribou Giftcard - $200, ski equipment/clothing, pass/tickets, race fees (where applicable).

Pass Recommendation: Rocky Mountain Passport

The move into the kinder program requires parents to purchase certain pieces of equipment that will aide the athlete through these stages. The list includes:

  • A minimum of one pair of competition skis and rock skis
  • Ski boots with at least four buckles
  • A downhill suit (ski suit)
  • Racing helmet and goggles are mandatory
  • Shin guards and pole guards
  • Straight and downhill poles
  • Ski gloves with fingers
  • A ski suit with side zippers on the legs
  • Upper body protection including back and mouth guard
